Agartala, February 23, 2026: In a significant step towards strengthening rural animal healthcare and promoting skill-based employment, the College of Veterinary Sciences & A.H., R.K. Nagar has launched a Short-Term Training Programme for Livestock Service Providers (LSPs) under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY 4.0). The initiative is being implemented in collaboration with the Directorate of Skill Development, Government of Tripura.
The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Neeraj Kumar Chanchal, Director of the Animal Resources Development Department, Government of Tripura, in the presence of Pradeep K., Director of Skill Development, Munmun Debbarma, Deputy Director of Skill Development, and Dr. Bikas Debnath, I/c Principal of the Veterinary College.
In his welcome address, Dr. Bikas Debnath highlighted the importance of capacity building in the livestock sector. Pradeep K. stressed that innovation and structured skill enhancement are essential for building a self-reliant society.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Neeraj Kumar Chanchal spoke on advanced animal husbandry practices and encouraged participants to familiarise themselves with various departmental schemes and emerging entrepreneurial opportunities in the livestock sector. Munmun Debbarma underscored the pivotal role of skill development in ensuring sustainable livelihoods for rural youth.
The training programme aims to bridge gaps in veterinary outreach by preparing community-based para-veterinary workers who will function under the supervision of registered veterinarians. LSPs will be trained to provide preventive healthcare services such as vaccination and deworming, administer basic medications, and offer first aid for minor injuries and common ailments, ensuring timely animal healthcare access in remote areas.
Officials stated that the initiative will strengthen rural animal health infrastructure while creating sustainable livelihood opportunities, reinforcing the state’s commitment to rural development and self-reliance.
