Agartala: Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan is likely to attend the 14th convocation ceremony of Tripura University, scheduled to be held on March 8 at the Maharaja Bir Bikram Sabhagriha. The much-awaited ceremony marks the return of the university’s convocation after a gap of two years.

The event is expected to be attended by Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu, Chief Minister Manik Saha, Chancellor Ahmed Javed, Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Shyamal Das, and Acting Registrar Prof. Samir Kumar Shil, along with other dignitaries.

A total of 283 students from the 2024 and 2025 batches will receive their degrees and gold medals in recognition of academic excellence. Additionally, 149 scholars will be conferred PhD degrees. University officials stated that holding the convocation will address long-standing challenges faced by students and researchers, many of whom encountered difficulties as probationary certificates were not widely accepted for employment or higher studies.

Acting Registrar Prof. Shil acknowledged that the absence of convocations in 2024 and 2025 had created significant hardships for students. He expressed hope that the upcoming ceremony would finally provide them with their rightful certificates and formal recognition.

The announcement has generated discussion among sections of the academic community, with some raising concerns about conducting the convocation without permanent appointments to the posts of Vice-Chancellor and Registrar. However, officials from the Ministry of Education and the University Grants Commission clarified that the event is being organised in accordance with the Tripura University Act and with the approval of the Executive Council.

University sources further confirmed that even if a new Vice-Chancellor is appointed before March 8, the convocation will proceed as scheduled.
