Agartala, March 30: With the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections and the Dharmanagar by-election approaching, Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag, IPS, on Monday chaired a high-level review meeting to assess and strengthen security arrangements across the state.

The meeting, conducted in hybrid mode, brought together senior officials from Police Headquarters, District Superintendents of Police (SPs), Commandants of Tripura State Rifles (TSR) battalions, and Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs). The comprehensive discussion focused on ensuring robust election preparedness, maintaining law and order, and enhancing coordination among various security agencies deployed across districts.

During the meeting, the DGP underscored the importance of heightened vigilance, particularly in sensitive and vulnerable areas. He directed officers to intensify surveillance, carry out regular patrolling, and establish effective communication channels to respond swiftly to any untoward incidents. Emphasis was also laid on intelligence gathering and real-time information sharing to preempt any attempts to disrupt the electoral process.

Officials present in the meeting highlighted that detailed plans for deployment of security personnel, including central forces and TSR units, are being finalized to ensure comprehensive coverage of polling stations. Special attention is being given to areas with a history of electoral tension, with instructions to maintain strict monitoring and take preventive measures wherever necessary.

The DGP also stressed the need to ensure the safety and confidence of voters, polling staff, and election officials. He instructed field officers to engage with local communities and stakeholders to build trust and encourage peaceful participation in the democratic exercise.

Additionally, guidelines were reiterated regarding strict enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct, with a warning against any form of intimidation, unlawful gatherings, or activities that could influence voters.

The review meeting is being viewed as a significant step toward reinforcing public confidence in the security apparatus ahead of the polls. With coordinated efforts and heightened preparedness, the state police aims to ensure that both the TTAADC elections and the Dharmanagar by-election are conducted in a free, fair, and peaceful manner under tight security arrangements.
