Agartala, May 21: In a significant breakthrough in the fight against narcotics, Khowai District Police arrested a youth and seized suspected brown sugar along with a large quantity of drug-related materials during an operation conducted under Kalyanpur police station.

The accused has been identified as Liton Deb, a resident of Gungraichhara Chowmuhani. Police recovered nearly 8 grams of suspected brown sugar from his possession, along with more than a thousand empty containers and various materials allegedly used for packaging and distribution of narcotics.

According to police sources, the operation was carried out following specific intelligence inputs regarding suspected drug activities in the area. Acting swiftly on the information, a special team of plain-clothes personnel launched an operation to apprehend the accused.

Sources said Deb allegedly attempted to flee after noticing the police team approaching him. However, officers managed to intercept and detain him before he could escape. Following his arrest, police conducted a search operation at his residence, where they reportedly discovered a substantial quantity of empty containers and other materials suspected to have been used in the preparation and packaging of narcotic substances.

Investigators suspect that the recovered materials may have been intended for use in the illegal drug trade. Police are now examining the seized items and are expected to continue further investigation to identify possible links with larger trafficking networks.

Police sources also claimed that Liton Deb and members of his family had previously come under suspicion in connection with alleged involvement in narcotics-related activities. Several earlier cases linked to drug offences are also reportedly under scrutiny.

The arrest has once again drawn attention to the issue of drug abuse and trafficking in different parts of the state, particularly among young people. Residents of the locality welcomed the police action and called for stricter enforcement measures to curb the spread of narcotics.

Authorities stated that anti-drug operations would continue across the district as part of broader efforts aimed at strengthening the campaign for a drug-free Tripura.
