Agartala, June 25: Tripura has received a major boost in its governance reform initiatives, with NITI Aayog awarding an incentive grant of Rs 1 crore to the Tripura Institution for Transformation (TIFT) in recognition of the state’s timely establishment of its own policy transformation body under the State Support Mission (SSM).

The incentive, announced by NITI Aayog this week, acknowledges Tripura’s successful implementation of the State Support Mission framework within the stipulated timeline. The financial assistance will enable TIFT to undertake new projects approved by the Mission Implementation Committee, further strengthening the state’s capacity for evidence-based policymaking, institutional innovation and effective governance.

Established in December 2023 under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, TIFT serves as Tripura’s apex policy think tank. The institution focuses on data analytics, policy advocacy, strategic planning and multidisciplinary research to support the government’s development agenda and improve public service delivery.

Officials said the recognition reflects Tripura’s growing emphasis on institutional strengthening and outcome-driven governance. By integrating research, technology and data-driven decision-making into the policy process, TIFT aims to provide innovative solutions to governance challenges and accelerate the state’s socio-economic development.

Tripura’s performance under the State Support Mission also received a boost after it successfully hosted the “NITI-Regional Dialogue under State Support Mission: Participation by Eastern and Northeastern States/UTs” in Agartala on February 3, 2026. The regional workshop brought together representatives from eastern and northeastern states and Union Territories to exchange best practices on institutional reforms and governance.

Officials described the Rs 1 crore incentive as a significant achievement for the state, noting that the funds would be utilised for projects focused on improving governance efficiency, promoting innovation and ensuring inclusive development across sectors.

The recognition also positions Tripura among the leading states in the Northeast in building robust policy institutions aligned with NITI Aayog’s vision of cooperative and competitive federalism.

Observers believe the success of TIFT could serve as a model for other states seeking to establish similar institutions, while reinforcing Tripura’s reputation as a state committed to modern, data-driven governance and long-term institutional transformation.
