A powerful Nor’wester storm, locally known as Kalbaishakhi, lashed parts of North Tripura on Wednesday night, leading to a serious accident near Royal Dhaba in the Krishnapur area under Dharmanagar subdivision.

The intense storm, marked by strong winds and sudden downpour, uprooted a large decades-old tree, which came crashing down onto a roadside area where multiple vehicles were parked. According to eyewitness accounts, a Bolero, a Scorpio, and an e-rickshaw were present at the spot when the tree collapsed. The impact caused extensive damage to the Bolero, while the e-rickshaw overturned, trapping and injuring several passengers.

The injured were identified as Anita Nath, Chandana Nath, Anima Nath, Abhijit Das, Kartik Das, Bijon Nath, and Bishnu Deb. They are residents of nearby areas including Uptakhali, Botorshi, and Chandrapur. Emergency response teams from the fire service reached the site swiftly and carried out rescue operations, ensuring that the injured were transported without delay to the Dharmanagar District Hospital.

Hospital authorities reported that while most of the injured are receiving treatment, one individual remains in critical condition, raising concern among family members and officials.

Upon receiving information about the incident, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Debjani Choudhury visited the accident site to assess the situation. She later went to the hospital to meet the injured and review the medical response. During her visit, she instructed concerned departments to ensure immediate removal of the fallen tree to restore vehicular movement and prevent further inconvenience to commuters.

In addition to the accident, the storm caused widespread disruption in power supply across several parts of Dharmanagar, leaving many residents without electricity. Authorities have initiated restoration work, deploying technical teams to repair damaged lines and infrastructure.

Officials stated that efforts are ongoing to normalize the situation as quickly as possible and urged residents to remain cautious during adverse weather conditions.
