Agartala: April 17: In Agartala, a tribal student faced harassment while traveling in a passenger auto. The accused, Rajesh Acharjee, aged 40, was arrested within 24 hours by the Sadar women police following directives from Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha.

The incident occurred on Wednesday when the student boarded an auto from GB Bazaar en route to Tripura University in Surjyamaninagar. A male passenger allegedly made inappropriate gestures and touched the student. The student recorded parts of the incident on her mobile phone and shared her experience on social media, seeking justice.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha responded promptly, urging a thorough investigation and swift action against the accused. By Thursday morning, the police had apprehended the suspect. The Chief Minister assured the public of the government’s commitment to women’s safety, emphasizing zero tolerance for such offenses.

Royal Scion Pradyot Kishore Deb Barma also expressed strong condemnation of the incident, calling for immediate action. After the arrest, he shared on social media that he had spoken to the victim, who expressed relief and satisfaction with the swift justice delivered.

Authorities continue to emphasize the importance of societal unity in addressing and preventing such incidents. The case highlights the government’s dedication to ensuring the safety and dignity of women.
