Agartala: April 17: The ongoing debate over the demand for the Roman script in the state has intensified, with political leaders expressing strong opinions on the matter. During a press conference at the Pradesh Congress Bhavan on Thursday, former minister and Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman criticized Tipra Motha and the BJP for their handling of the issue.
Sudip Roy Barman described the movement for the Roman script, led by tribal student organizations and Tipra Motha, as a “scripted drama.” He alleged that the emotions of the Tiprasa community were being manipulated and accused the Left government of delaying action on the Roman script issue in the past. He also claimed that the current BJP government is engaging in “dirty politics” over the matter.
The Congress leader further criticized Tipra Motha Supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, stating that the trust of the Tiprasa community had been exploited, leading to what he termed a “grand betrayal.” He emphasized that rights should be achieved through democratic means and called for a united and democratic movement by Tipra Motha and other political parties supporting the Roman script demand.
Sudip Roy Barman reaffirmed Congress’s commitment to the interests of the Tiprasa and tribal communities, stating that the party would continue to stand by their rightful demands, regardless of electoral outcomes. His remarks have sparked renewed discussions in the state’s political landscape. The ongoing debate over the demand for the Roman script in the state has intensified, with political leaders expressing strong opinions on the matter.
