Agartala, June 1: Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday said that the state government is working with sincerity and commitment to address the challenges faced by street vendors and ensure their socio-economic development through various welfare initiatives.
Addressing a benefit distribution programme under the PM SVANidhi scheme at Muktadhara Auditorium in Agartala, attended by Union Minister for Power, Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar, the Chief Minister highlighted the significant progress made under the flagship scheme aimed at empowering street vendors.
Dr. Saha said that street vendors play a vital role in the economy and have demonstrated remarkable financial discipline by embracing digital transactions and moving steadily towards self-reliance. He noted that the scheme has helped thousands of vendors access formal credit and improve their livelihoods.
Sharing details of the programme’s implementation in Tripura, the Chief Minister informed that a total of 19,727 loan applications have been received under PM SVANidhi so far. Of these, 9,578 applications have been approved, leading to the disbursement of loans amounting to Rs 15.28 crore.
He further stated that nearly 5,000 beneficiaries have already repaid their loans, reflecting the success of the initiative and the sense of responsibility among the vendors. According to him, the repayment record demonstrates the positive impact of the scheme on strengthening financial inclusion and economic stability among small entrepreneurs.
The Chief Minister also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Central Government for extending the PM SVANidhi scheme till March 31, 2030, along with enhanced loan provisions. He said the extension would provide continued support to street vendors and further strengthen their economic security.
Following the programme, the Chief Minister, Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and other dignitaries listened to the 134th episode of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mann Ki Baat at the auditorium, organized under Booth No. 11 of the Bordowali Assembly Constituency.
