The Special NDPS Court in Khowai district has delivered a strong verdict in a narcotics case, sentencing Dipankar Das of Lalchhara to five years of rigorous imprisonment and imposing a fine of Rs 50,000.

The case dates back to December 2023, when police recovered narcotic substances from Das during an operation. After completing the investigation, authorities filed a charge sheet earlier this year, and the court proceeded to examine witnesses, review evidence, and hear the arguments before reaching its judgment. Based on the material placed before it, the court found Das guilty under Section 21(b) of the NDPS Act, 1985.

In addition to the prison term, the court ruled that if Das fails to pay the fine, he will have to undergo one more year of imprisonment. The sentence reflects the seriousness with which the judiciary is treating offences related to drug possession and trafficking under the narcotics law.

Law enforcement officials have welcomed the decision, describing it as an important step in Tripura’s continued fight against drug abuse and illegal trafficking networks. They said the judgment would act as a deterrent to offenders and strengthen ongoing efforts to curb the spread of narcotics in the state.

The ruling is being seen as a significant development in Tripura’s anti-drug campaign, reinforcing the message that those involved in narcotics-related crimes will face strict legal consequences. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to dismantling illegal drug networks and safeguarding communities from the harmful impact of narcotics.
