Agartala, June 21: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Sunday underscored the immense importance of yoga in maintaining a disease-free, healthy and balanced life, urging people to make the ancient practice a regular part of their daily routine.

Addressing the state-level celebration of the 12th International Yoga Day at the Hapania International Exhibition Hall on the outskirts of Agartala, the Chief Minister said yoga has emerged as a powerful medium for promoting physical fitness, mental well-being and emotional stability.

Saha highlighted the global recognition that yoga has earned over the years and said the ancient Indian tradition of yoga and pranayama is spreading a unique message of human welfare, harmony and holistic wellness across the world.

Recalling the origins of International Yoga Day, he said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had proposed the observance before the United Nations in 2014, which received overwhelming support from member nations. As a result, June 21 has been celebrated globally as International Yoga Day since 2015.

Referring to this year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” the Chief Minister said the observance aims to encourage people of all age groups to embrace yoga as a way of life. “Yoga strengthens the body, calms the mind and helps achieve discipline, inner peace and harmony. I urge everyone to adopt yoga regularly and build a healthy, conscious and balanced lifestyle,” he said.

The programme was attended by Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Tinku Roy, Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, Director General of Police Anurag, other ministers, MLAs, senior government officials and hundreds of participants who joined the mass yoga and pranayama session.

Meanwhile, Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu participated in the Sepahijala district-level International Yoga Day celebration at Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Higher Secondary School in Charilam. A large number of students, teachers and residents took part in the yoga session.

International Yoga Day was observed with enthusiasm across Tripura, from district headquarters to village-level centres. Agriculture and Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath, who attended a Yoga Day programme in Mohanpur, described yoga as a holistic discipline that nurtures physical health, mental peace and a balanced lifestyle. He called upon people to incorporate yoga into their daily lives and reaffirm their commitment to health and well-being.

The widespread participation across the state reflected the growing popularity of yoga and its role in promoting a healthier and more disciplined society.
