Agarta, June 30: A tragic discovery early Monday morning sent shockwaves through East Gokulnagar Higher Secondary School when the body of a man was found lying lifeless on the school field. The distressing scene left students, teachers, and guardians shaken as police rushed to the spot to begin an investigation.
Officers from Bishalgarh Police Station arrived promptly after receiving information and identified the deceased as Mithun Debnath, a resident of the Gokulnagar area and son of the late Manindra Debnath. His home is located adjacent to the school campus, making the incident even more distressing for the local community.
According to neighbors, Mithun had been suffering from mental health issues for several years. Many recalled seeing him wandering aimlessly around the locality in recent months. Though his exact cause of death remains unknown, the circumstances suggest a prolonged period of psychological distress.
Speaking to the media, Bishalgarh Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sanjit Sen stated, “We have recovered the body and sent it to Bishalgarh Hospital for postmortem examination. The investigation is ongoing to ascertain the exact cause of death.”
Mithun is survived by his stepmother and brother. The family, already battling severe financial hardship, was visibly devastated. In a display of community solidarity, East Gokulnagar H.S. School Headmaster Chinmoy Majumdar, along with OC Sanjit Sen, extended support to the grieving family and assisted in arranging the last rites.
The incident has highlighted the need for stronger mental health support and social safety nets for vulnerable individuals in the community. The school resumed normal operations later in the day, though a sense of mourning lingered among students and staff.
