Udaipur, July 28: Tripura is moving steadily towards becoming a Hepatitis-free state under the leadership of Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha and the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy while inaugurating the World Hepatitis Day 2025 observance at Rajarshi Kala Kshetra in Udaipur.
Speaking at the event, the minister emphasized that hepatitis remains a global health threat, with nearly 14 to 15 lakh deaths worldwide each year. He pointed out that India is not exempt from this challenge, with around 4 crore people currently infected. In Tripura alone, approximately 3.6% of the population is affected by various forms of hepatitis.
Referring to the World Health Organization’s (WHO) global campaign launched in 2010, he said that efforts are underway in Tripura to raise awareness, expand testing and prevention, and improve treatment outcomes. “Our state’s healthcare infrastructure has significantly improved, and complex operations are now being conducted successfully within the state itself,” he added.
Gomati Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Debol Debroy also addressed the gathering and stated that July 28 is observed globally as World Hepatitis Day to raise awareness about Hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E. He urged people to focus on early detection, prevention, and treatment.
Other dignitaries who spoke on the occasion included Udaipur Municipal Council Chairperson Sheetal Chandra Majumder, Gomati District Magistrate Rinku Lalthher, and Director of Health Services Prof. Dr. Tapan Majumder. The welcome address was delivered by District Programme Officer Dr. Soumik Chakraborty, and the programme was presided over by Chief Medical Officer of Gomati District, Dr. Kamal Reang.
