Agartala, Sep 13: Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Saturday credited the Narendra Modi government for bringing peace and development to the northeast, saying that the region has shed its troubled past and entered a new phase of growth.

Speaking at the 2nd International Forensic Odontology Conference at the National Forensic Sciences University in Gandhinagar, Saha said the Prime Minister’s “HIRA” model – Highways, Internet, Railways, and Airways, has transformed connectivity and opportunities across the region.

“Earlier, the northeast was synonymous with violence. Today, Tripura is a terror-free state after accords with extremist groups and a strong push from the Centre. Law and order has visibly improved,” the chief minister told reporters on the sidelines of the event.

On a day when Prime Minister Modi visited Manipur for the first time since ethnic violence erupted two years ago, Saha said the situation there has also stabilized. “Manipur is settled now, and the atmosphere is very good,” he said.

Highlighting Modi’s consistent outreach to the northeast, Saha pointed out that the Prime Minister has visited the region more than 60 times. “Previous governments neglected the northeast, but Modi ji always wanted peace and prosperity here,” he remarked.

He also praised Modi for coining the term “Ashtalakshmi” to describe the eight northeastern states, stressing that India’s growth depends on the progress of this region.

The chief minister confirmed that Modi will visit Tripura on September 22, where he is scheduled to inaugurate development projects at the historic Tripurasundari Temple, one of the 51 Shaktipeeths, and also offer prayers.
