Patna, Oct 6: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday transferred ₹10,000 each to 21 lakh women under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). The event, held at his official residence, 1 Anne Marg, marked the third instalment of the scheme aimed at empowering women across the state.

So far, 1.21 crore women have benefited from the programme, each receiving ₹10,000. Earlier, on October 3, ₹10,000 each was transferred to 25 lakh women, while 75 lakh beneficiaries received assistance on September 26, coinciding with the scheme’s formal launch by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Announced on August 29 and implemented within a month, the Mahila Rojgar Yojana has emerged as one of the Nitish Kumar government’s flagship welfare initiatives ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. The scheme aims to strengthen women’s financial independence, encourage entrepreneurship, and boost household income.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said, “The Bihar government will provide up to ₹2 lakh to women whose businesses perform well. This micro-level investment will uplift entire families and contribute to the state’s economic growth.”

Highlighting his government’s commitment to women’s empowerment, Nitish recalled that since November 2005, 50 per cent reservation has been provided to women in Panchayati Raj institutions, extended to urban local bodies in 2007, and 35 per cent reservation introduced in government jobs this year.

He also cited the success of 1.40 crore Jeevika Didis under self-help group initiatives as an example of women’s rising economic participation.

On the occasion, Nitish also inaugurated and laid foundation stones for 264 projects worth ₹5,847.66 crore under the Energy Department, including new power substations, transformer installations, and electric wire upgrades. Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha were present at the event.
