Teliamura, Oct 9 — Residents of Ram Babu Para in North Krishnapur Gram Panchayat under the Krishnapur Assembly Constituency staged a road blockade on Wednesday morning, demanding immediate repair of a long-neglected rural road. The protest, which began around 9:30 a.m. on the busy Teliamura–Ghilatali route, caused major traffic disruptions and inconvenience to commuters.

Carrying placards and shouting slogans, villagers expressed frustration over years of administrative indifference. They alleged that despite repeated appeals to the Panchayat authorities, local MLA and Minister Bikash Debbarma, and other concerned officials, no steps were taken to improve the deteriorating road condition. “We have been raising this issue for years, but our pleas have fallen on deaf ears,” said one of the protesters.

Locals further claimed that although funds were sanctioned for road development, the work was abruptly stopped due to alleged interference by the Block Development Officer (BDO). The road, they said, has become nearly impassable, particularly during the monsoon, making it difficult for students, patients, and daily commuters to travel safely.

The blockade continued for over two hours, bringing vehicular movement to a standstill until senior officials from the sub-divisional and block administration arrived at the spot. After listening to the villagers’ grievances, the officials assured them that necessary steps would soon be taken to resume the pending road work and restore connectivity.

Following the assurance, the protesters agreed to lift the blockade, but warned that they would intensify their agitation if the promises were not fulfilled within a reasonable timeframe. “We will return to the streets if this issue is ignored again,” said a resident, emphasizing the community’s determination to ensure accountability.
