Agartala, April 03: In yet another boost to the state’s bamboo sector, an initiative was taken to establish an integrated bamboo park at Chandipur in Kailasahar subdivision under Unakoti District of the state.

The bamboo park will house various types of bamboo-based production units. The park will be build with an estimated cost of Rs 162.92 Crore. A DPR has already been prepared and sent to the central government for setting up the bamboo park.

The park will also have units for using bamboo waste as raw material to ensure maximum utilization of bamboo. In the proposed bamboo park, there are also plans to set up industrial units such as bamboo activated charcoal, bamboo waste plastic mixing to make bio-degradable tableware, bamboo fiber extraction and cloth making.

To ensure the supply of bamboo for this project, 26 bamboo primary processing units cum aggregation centers will be set up in bamboo growing areas in North Tripura, Unakoti, Dhalai, Khowai and West Tripura districts.

India’s first bamboo park was established in Tripura in 2007 at R K Nagar, which houses many small and medium-sized bamboo-based industries. These industries are producing bamboo products such as bamboo tiles for flooring, bamboo flooring, bamboo waste processing or briquettes, bamboo powder.
