Agartala, July 05: The state transport and tourism minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Saturday inaugurated Oriental Football Tournament at Belonia Vidyapith football ground and emphasized on sports for one’s mental and physical growth.
“Sports not only contribute to physical development but also play a vital role in shaping the mental well-being of the youth,” the minister said.
Emphasizing the state government’s commitment to the promotion of sports, the Minister stated that comprehensive initiatives are being taken to enhance sports infrastructure across districts. He highlighted that modern facilities such as astro-turf football grounds are being developed in different parts of the state to encourage local talent and create a conducive environment for sporting activities.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister praised the efforts of Bilonia Oriental Club for organizing the football tournament and said such events provide a platform for local players to showcase their talents. “These tournaments are stepping stones for budding players who can go on to represent the state and the nation in various competitions,” he remarked.
He also noted that these initiatives play a crucial role in steering the youth away from substance abuse and engaging them in constructive pursuits.
As part of the event, the Oriental Club felicitated meritorious students from the Bilonia sub-division who excelled in the Madhyamik and Higher Secondary Board Examinations. The Minister personally handed over certificates of recognition and mementos to the awardees.\
