Agartala, Aug 14: The Union Railway Minister has approved Belonia in South Tripura district a halting station for the long-distance Kanchenjunga Express train.
Sharing this in his social media handle on Thursday, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha said, “After a delegation met me and requested that the matter be brought to the attention of the Central Government, I raised the issue during a meeting with the Union Railway Minister in Delhi, urging him to consider it.”
“The Hon’ble Railway Minister assured that the matter would be reviewed with the concerned departmental officials. Subsequently, Transport Minister Shri Sushanta Chowdhury, along with the Transport Department and our Members of Parliament, also put forth this demand,” he added.
He further stated, “Respecting the long-standing request of the people of Belonia, the lifeline of South Tripura, the Railway Authorities recognized the importance of the matter and responded positively. On behalf of the State Government, I extend my sincere thanks and gratitude to Hon’ble Union Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw.”
