Agartala, Jan 29CPIM Politburo member and Vice President of Adivasi Rastriya Adhikar Mancha (ARAM), Brinda Karat, on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the BJP and Tipra Motha Party, accusing both of undermining the rights of tribal communities in Tripura. Her remarks came during a public meeting marking the start of GMP’s central conference in Agartala.

Karat targeted the BJP for allegedly fostering a culture of misinformation, stating, “After the BJP government came to power in the country, only one sector has flourished substantially — the manufacturing of lies. All the Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states are directors of this unit, and the chairman sits in Delhi.”

Addressing the killing of Anjel Chakma, Karat said the incident “shook the nation,” highlighting systemic issues beyond the immediate perpetrators. “The thought process of using racial slurs against ethnic minorities is promoted and endorsed by the BJP and RSS. The seeds of hatred sown by them have started to bear fruit. The killing of Anjel cannot be treated as an isolated incident,” she added.

Karat also criticised Tipra Motha, alleging exploitation of tribal sentiments, a pattern she traced back to TUJS and IPFT. Commenting on former BJP MP Rebati Tripura’s statement about sending Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarman to jail, Karat described it as “a disgraceful display of power politics,” accusing parties of prioritising power and money over ideological commitments.

Speaking at the same event, Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury highlighted contradictions within the ruling alliance. “Three parties of the alliance raise slogans that contradict each other — IPFT says Tipraland, Tipra Motha says Greater Tipraland, and BJP opposes Tipraland. Hopefully, the alliance will clarify its collective stand in the coming days,” he said.

The meeting underscored rising political tensions in Tripura, with leaders voicing concerns over governance, tribal rights, and ideological opportunism amid the state’s evolving political landscape.
