Bharatiya Janata Party MLA from Matabari assembly constituency, Abhishek Debroy, was appointed as the new president of BJP Tripura Pradesh on Thursday. The decision was finalized by BJP national leadership, with the announcement made under the guidance of BJP National President Nitin Nabin.
Debroy succeeds Rajib Bhattacharjee, who had been serving as the state BJP president since 2022. The appointment of the young MLA is being viewed as a strategic move by the party to strengthen its organizational structure ahead of the 2028 Tripura Assembly elections, as well as upcoming village committee and local body polls.
Known for his close connection with grassroots party workers and organizational skills, Debroy has steadily risen through the ranks of the BJP. Before becoming an MLA, he served in key organizational roles including mandal president and district president. His elevation to the post of state president has generated enthusiasm among party workers, particularly the youth cadre.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha congratulated Debroy on his appointment and expressed confidence in his leadership. In a message posted on social media, the Chief Minister said, “Heartiest congratulations to Shri Abhishek Debroy Ji on being appointed as the President of BJP Tripura Pradesh. Under his dynamic leadership and organizational vision, the party will continue to grow stronger and work dedicatedly for the welfare of the people of Tripura.”
Several senior BJP leaders, including former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, minister Sushanta Chowdhury, and minister Pranajit Singha Roy, also extended their greetings and wished him success in his new role.
Following the announcement, a large number of BJP karyakartas gathered at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala to welcome Debroy upon his return from Delhi. The newly appointed state president received a warm reception from party workers, with ministers Pranajit Singha Roy, Sushanta Chowdhury, Kishor Barman, and other leaders present at the airport.
Supporters escorted Debroy from the airport to the BJP state office amid celebrations and slogans. Party leaders and workers expressed optimism that under his leadership, the BJP organization in Tripura would become stronger and more active at the grassroots level in the coming years.
