Agartala, June 5: Former Tripura Chief Minister and veteran CPI(M) leader Manik Sarkar has strongly responded to Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha’s recent assertion that the CPI(M) would be reduced to zero seats in the 2028 Assembly elections, stating that the Left party’s commitment to the people goes far beyond electoral success or failure.

Addressing a public interaction, Sarkar said that if citizens are not allowed to exercise their democratic right to vote freely, any political outcome is possible, including the complete elimination of a party from the Assembly. However, he emphasized that in a truly free and fair democratic environment, the people’s verdict would genuinely reflect their aspirations and choices.

“Our struggle is not merely about winning seats. It is about protecting democracy, safeguarding constitutional rights, and standing with ordinary people,” Sarkar said.

The former Chief Minister stressed that the CPI(M)’s role as a platform for workers, farmers, and marginalized sections of society does not depend on whether the party is in power. He asserted that even if the party’s representation in the Assembly declines, it will continue to lead movements on issues such as wages, employment, social welfare, and democratic rights.

Sarkar also accused ruling forces of putting pressure on opposition parties and attempting to influence democratic institutions. He warned that such developments could weaken democratic values and undermine public trust in the political system.

Calling for stronger democratic movements across the state, the veteran leader urged citizens and political organizations to unite in defending constitutional rights and democratic principles. He reiterated that the CPI(M) would remain steadfast in its commitment to protecting people’s interests, regardless of electoral outcomes.
