The Tripura government will bear the entire medical expenses of the 19-year-old woman from the state who was allegedly confined and assaulted in Gurugram, Chief Minister Manik Saha said.

In a social media post, the chief minister announced that the state government has decided to cover the full cost of the survivor’s treatment. He also stated that the government stands firmly with the victim and her family during this difficult time.

Tripura Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy said he met the survivor and her parents at a hospital in Delhi earlier this week. He also held discussions with police officials in Haryana and Delhi regarding the progress of the investigation. Addressing reporters, Roy said the accused has already been arrested and expressed confidence that due legal action would follow. “The police will do its duty and the accused shall be punished as per law,” he said.

According to police and the victim’s family, the woman, a resident of Sepahijala district, met the accused, identified as Shivam from Delhi’s Narela area, through an online platform. She later went to live with him in Gurugram. Police sources said she was allegedly confined and assaulted repeatedly over a three-day period in mid-February.

On February 16, the survivor reportedly made a distress call to her mother, stating that she feared for her life. The family subsequently alerted the police, and the matter was reported to Gurugram Police, leading to the accused’s arrest.

Officials said the chief minister also spoke to Nayab Singh Saini, who assured that necessary steps would be taken to ensure justice in the case.
