Agartala, June 5: Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu planted a tree sapling at Lok Bhavan in Agartala on Thursday evening to mark World Environment Day, reaffirming the importance of environmental conservation and sustainable living.

The plantation programme was organised as part of the nationwide observance of World Environment Day, which aims to raise awareness about environmental protection and encourage collective action against climate change and ecological degradation.

Governor Nallu participated in the symbolic tree plantation drive in the premises of Lok Bhavan and highlighted the significance of increasing green cover to ensure a healthier and more sustainable future. He stressed that tree plantation is one of the most effective ways to combat the adverse effects of climate change, including rising temperatures, loss of biodiversity, and environmental pollution.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor urged citizens, especially the younger generation, to actively participate in afforestation programmes and adopt environmentally responsible practices in their daily lives. He said that protecting nature is a shared responsibility and called upon people to contribute towards preserving forests, water resources, and biodiversity.

The Governor also emphasized that environmental conservation is essential for maintaining ecological balance and ensuring the well-being of future generations. He noted that every tree planted today is an investment in a cleaner and greener tomorrow.

World Environment Day, observed annually on June 5, serves as a global platform for encouraging environmental awareness and action. This year’s celebrations witnessed various plantation drives, awareness campaigns, and community activities across the country.

Officials and staff members present at the programme joined the Governor in promoting the message of environmental stewardship and sustainable development. The event concluded with a renewed commitment to protecting natural resources and strengthening efforts towards a greener and healthier environment.

The tree plantation drive at Lok Bhavan reflected the broader objective of fostering environmental consciousness and inspiring citizens to take meaningful steps towards safeguarding the planet for future generations.
