Agartala: June 09: Tripura Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Monday reiterated the state government’s strong commitment to empowering farmers through the adoption of modern technology and heightened awareness of agricultural welfare schemes. Speaking at the historic Old Town Hall in Sabroom, South Tripura district, on the 9th day of the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, Nath highlighted the significance of the nationwide campaign, which was launched on May 29.

The minister said the initiative is aimed at bridging the knowledge gap among farmers regarding various state and central government welfare schemes. “In Tripura, we have already connected with 1.20 lakh farmers, excluding today’s turnout. Our target is to engage 1.70 lakh farmers, and we are confident of surpassing it,” he said. He praised the overwhelming response to the campaign, noting that 72 awareness meetings were held across the state on the same day. In total, 864 meetings are planned under this ambitious outreach drive.

Nath stressed the dual objective of the campaign — equipping farmers with advanced agricultural technologies and providing essential training and support to boost productivity. He pointed out that many farmers remain unaware of the schemes designed for their welfare, which hampers their access to benefits and opportunities.

“Through the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Yatra, we are enabling farmers to make informed decisions, access subsidies, and implement best practices, ultimately leading to improved yields and higher income,” he said. Nath described the campaign as one of the most extensive of its kind ever undertaken in Tripura.

He also emphasized the scientific approach of the campaign, which includes soil health testing being carried out across the state. This will help farmers make data-driven decisions on crop selection and fertilizer application, thereby enhancing agricultural output. The campaign will run until June 12, covering all regions of the state.
