Agartala: May 13: Tripura Police successfully rescued a missing minor girl from Sepahijala district late Thursday night, bringing an end to a 27-day-long search operation. The girl, a resident of Kathalia Gram Panchayat in the Sonamura subdivision and a Class-XII student, had been missing since May 18.

Her family had promptly filed a complaint at Jatrapur Police Station, naming a youth from the Gandacherra subdivision in Dhalai district as a suspect. According to police sources, the girl had formed an online relationship with the accused, identified as Nabajit Sarkar. It was later confirmed that she had eloped with him.

Following continuous efforts and intelligence gathering, Jatrapur police, with support from Gandacherra Police, conducted a raid on June 12 at MR Das Para, the residence of the accused. The girl was found at the location, though the youth had initially fled. However, police managed to trace and apprehend him later that night from a different location.

Both the girl and the accused were brought to Jatrapur Police Station early Friday. Officer-in-Charge Subrata Debnath stated that the accused had allegedly lured the minor with false promises of marriage.

Legal proceedings have been initiated. The accused was produced before the Sonamura Court on Friday and has since been remanded to judicial custody.

The girl’s parents, overwhelmed with relief, expressed their deep gratitude to the police for their tireless work. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to protecting vulnerable minors and ensuring justice.

The successful operation highlights the coordinated efforts of Tripura Police in tracking and rescuing missing persons, while also sending a strong message against exploitation of minors through online interactions.
