Agartala, July 2: Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Wednesday flagged off at least 19 newly procured Basic Life Support Road Safety Ambulance here in a programme at Agartala and said that ensuring the safety of every precious life remains a top priority for the Tripura state government.
As part of its continued efforts to reduce road accidents and move towards a “zero-fatality” target, the Transport Department has been taking a series of proactive initiatives, Dr Saha said.
Dr Saha said that in a significant step forward, the Transport Department has procured and handed over 16 Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulances—8 each to the Police and Fire & Emergency Services Departments. This initiative, implemented at a cost of ₹3.84 crore, is expected to significantly boost the emergency response infrastructure of the state, he added.
In addition, a new Vehicle Location Tracking (VLT) system was officially launched at an estimated cost of ₹5.49 crore. This technology will allow real-time monitoring of vehicle locations across the state. Particularly in the context of women’s safety, the VLT system is poised to play a crucial and effective role in strengthening security measures.
The Transport Department remains committed to further enhancing road safety and ensuring timely response to emergencies, aiming for a safer and more secure Tripura.
