Agartala, July 15 — Justice Satya Ratna Sri Ramachandra Rao, who was serving as the Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court, has been appointed as the new Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court.

The official notification regarding his appointment was issued recently by the Ministry of Law and Justice following the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium. Justice Rao will succeed the outgoing Chief Justice of Tripura, continuing the judicial leadership in one of India’s northeastern states.

Justice Rao brings with him decades of legal experience and an illustrious judicial career. Prior to his role as Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court, he served as a judge in the Telangana High Court and held several key judicial positions. Known for his firm legal acumen and administrative capabilities, his appointment is expected to further strengthen the judicial infrastructure and efficiency of the Tripura High Court.

Born in Andhra Pradesh, Justice Rao was enrolled as an advocate in the early 1980s and practiced in various areas of civil, criminal, and constitutional law before being elevated to the bench. His legal judgments have often been cited for their clarity and progressive approach.

His transfer to Tripura is part of a routine judicial reshuffle aimed at ensuring efficient distribution of leadership and responsibilities across Indian High Courts.

The legal fraternity in Tripura has welcomed his appointment, expressing hope that Justice Rao’s experience and leadership will help in timely disposal of cases and improving access to justice in the state.

Justice Rao is expected to take charge formally in the coming days after completion of official procedures and oath-taking at the Raj Bhavan in Agartala.
