Meerut/Lucknow, July 20:
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday extended a warm welcome to Lord Shiva devotees participating in the annual Kanwar Yatra across western Uttar Pradesh. Demonstrating reverence, the Chief Minister showered flower petals on Kanwariyas on the streets of Meerut and also paid tribute from a helicopter in other districts.

Addressing a press conference in Meerut, CM Yogi issued a stern warning against individuals attempting to defame the sacred Yatra. “Some motivated elements are trying to malign this holy pilgrimage through social media and other means. They will be identified, and strict action will be taken against them,” he said.

He praised the vibrant participation of devotees from all walks of life. “Lakhs of Shiva bhakts from across the country are collecting holy Ganga water from Haridwar to offer Jalabhishek at revered temples like Baba Aughadnath, Pura Mahadev, and Dudheshwarnath. It is a heartening display of social harmony,” Yogi stated.

Highlighting security measures, he assured that the entire Yatra route is under CCTV surveillance. “Once the Yatra concludes, those involved in any disruptive activities will face legal consequences. Their posters will also be displayed publicly,” he warned.

The Chief Minister emphasized that comprehensive arrangements—ranging from welcome camps, drinking water, rest areas to medical aid—have been made in collaboration with the administration, voluntary groups, and religious bodies to ensure a smooth and safe pilgrimage.

Urging devotees to maintain discipline and cleanliness, CM Yogi said, “Preserve the sanctity of the Yatra. Do not litter or inconvenience others. Walk with a spirit of public service.”

Taking a dig at past regimes, he added, “Before 2017, this Yatra was obstructed. Today, it is supported and celebrated. Let us uphold this tradition with peace and respect.”
