Khowai, July 27, 2025: Tension gripped the Asharambari Assembly constituency in Tripura’s Khowai district on Sunday after alleged supporters of the Tipra Motha party attacked BJP workers during the broadcast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme.

According to reports, BJP workers and supporters had gathered in a village under the jurisdiction of Champahour Police Station to listen to the monthly radio address by the Prime Minister. The village falls under the constituency of Tipra Motha leader and state Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma.

Local BJP leaders alleged that a group of Tipra Motha supporters suddenly launched a violent attack on them. “The attack was intense. They vandalised our vehicles and motorcycles,” claimed one BJP worker who was present at the spot.

The incident triggered tension in the area, prompting a swift response from the administration to bring the situation under control. Additional police personnel have reportedly been deployed in the locality to prevent any further escalation.

While no official statement has yet been released by the police, sources confirmed that an investigation is underway. The motive behind the alleged attack is still unclear, but political friction between alliance partners BJP and Tipra Motha has been simmering in the region.

This incident has raised concerns over the fragile political equation between the ruling BJP and its ally Tipra Motha in Tripura. Both parties had joined hands ahead of the state assembly elections, but ground-level tensions seem to persist.

Authorities have assured that law and order will be maintained and that strict action will be taken against those responsible once the inquiry concludes. Meanwhile, the BJP has demanded the immediate arrest of the accused and urged the state government to ensure the safety of its workers.
