Agartala, August 3:
H.E. Mr. M. Riaz Hamidullah, High Commissioner of Bangladesh to India, paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of Tripura, Shri Indra Sena Reddy Nallu, at Raj Bhavan in Agartala this morning. The meeting marked an important part of the envoy’s three-day official visit to the state, which focused on strengthening bilateral ties and reviewing cross-border infrastructure projects.
The High Commissioner, accompanied by Arif Muhammad, Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh’s diplomatic mission in Agartala, engaged in detailed discussions with the Governor on matters of mutual interest. According to sources, the interaction covered a wide range of topics including ongoing connectivity projects, cultural exchanges, and the importance of deepening ties between Tripura and Bangladesh.
The visit comes at a time when both nations are working to enhance trade and connectivity through strategic projects such as the Agartala-Akhaura rail link, Sabroom Integrated Check Post, Maitri Setu over the Feni River, and the inland waterway initiatives. These projects are expected to transform Tripura into a key gateway to Southeast Asia, once operational.
Governor Nallu welcomed the envoy and expressed optimism about the positive impact these projects would have on the people of Tripura as well as on the broader relationship between India and Bangladesh.
Hamidullah’s visit also carried symbolic significance in the context of recent political developments in Bangladesh. By inspecting projects and meeting senior officials during his stay, the envoy underscored his country’s willingness to continue cooperative engagement.
The High Commissioner’s courtesy call on the Governor concluded his tightly packed schedule in Agartala. Later in the day, he departed for New Delhi from MBB Airport after completing the visit, which has been seen as a step towards strengthening the long-standing partnership between Bangladesh and Tripura.
