Agartala, August 4: Former TIPRA Motha supremo and current MDC Pradyot Kishore Debbarma has announced his intention to approach the Supreme Court over the prolonged delay in holding Village Council elections in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) regions.

Pradyot on Monday expressed serious concern over the State Election Commission’s failure to announce election dates despite the passage of a considerable amount of time. He pointed out that the absence of elected village councils is causing numerous difficulties for residents in ADC areas.

“People in the villages are suffering because there is no functioning village council. If alliance partners are not working for the people, then there is no point being part of any alliance,” Pradyot stated.

He reiterated that seeking justice through legal channels is now the only option left. As part of his commitment to ensuring grassroots governance and democratic rights, he affirmed his decision to take the matter to the Supreme Court.

The delay in holding these crucial elections has drawn criticism from various quarters, especially from tribal leaders and rights groups, who see it as a denial of local self-governance in the autonomous areas.
