Agartala, Aug 25: In a bid to boost rural livelihood and self-reliance, Tripura’s Fisheries Minister Sudhangshu Das on Monday laid the foundation stone for a Fisheries Training and Awareness Centre at Fatikroy in Unakoti district.
The centre, to be constructed on government land adjacent to Fatikroy police station, will be a modern two-storey facility with a conference hall, VVIP rooms, and guest accommodation. The project, sanctioned at ₹8.85 crore, will be executed by NPCC with joint funding from the state government and NABARD.
Speaking at the inauguration, Minister Das said the initiative reflects the government’s focus on transparency and accountability in developmental works. “This centre will play a crucial role in empowering local fish farmers with advanced training and resources, making them self-reliant,” he stated.
Highlighting parallel initiatives in Fatikroy, Das informed that a modern playground is coming up at the local higher secondary school with an initial ₹1.20 crore allocation, later revised to ₹4.5 crore. Construction is set to resume post-Durga Puja. A nearby pond will also be transformed into a swimming pool for community use.
The Minister further announced that the government has approved ₹14 crore for a bridge connecting Saydarpur in Fatikroy to Sardapalli in Kumarghat, removing a longstanding connectivity hurdle. With land acquisition completed, construction will begin shortly.
“Through these projects, Fatikroy is set to emerge as a model of rural development in Tripura,” Das added, underlining the government’s vision for economic growth and community empowerment.
