Agartala, November 8:
Senior Congress MLA and former Minister Sudip Roy Barman on Saturday launched a fierce attack on both the BJP and Tipra Motha, accusing them of engaging in “political theatrics” in the name of tribal welfare while failing to deliver on genuine development for Tripura’s indigenous communities.

Addressing the media at the Congress Bhavan in Agartala, Roy Barman dismissed recent claims by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and Tipra Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarma that their closed-door meeting was centered on the welfare of tribal people and the implementation of the Tiprasa (Tripartite) Accord. He alleged that the actual focus of their discussion was electoral strategy for the upcoming TTAADC and Village Committee elections, along with preparing the state government’s affidavit to justify the delay in holding the Village Committee polls, pending for over five years.

“At this stage, neither the Chief Minister nor the state government can proceed with implementing the Tiprasa Accord without approval from Union Home Minister Amit Shah,” Roy Barman said. He asserted that discussions on the Accord are meant to take place in New Delhi among the Union Home Secretary, the Chief Secretary, and Tipra Motha representatives—not at the state level. “If someone here claims otherwise, they are misleading the people,” he added.

The Congress leader alleged that both the BJP and Tipra Motha are exploiting tribal sentiments for electoral gains. “The BJP government is indifferent to tribal development, while Tipra Motha continues to enjoy power without accountability. Their so-called meetings are nothing but political drama to woo the tribal electorate,” he said.

Roy Barman further pointed out that nearly two years after signing the Tiprasa Accord—intended for implementation within six months—no concrete steps have been taken. “Before every election, they revive the same issue to mislead people. But this time, the tribal communities have begun to see through their deceptive alliance politics,” he concluded.
